While we are in transition and searching for a stable home base, we will continue to produce events with some of our neighborhood partners.

The AltLib Popup Series will present roving events to continue supporting expansive art projects and dig deep for uncommon cultural exchanges. If you’re interested in setting up a show with us, please read our booking page and send us an e-mail.

Incidental Music: Ross Hammond / Melanie Sehman

November 3, 2018 @ 8:00 pm - 11:55 pm

Doors at 7:30pm; Music at 8:00pm

$6-12 donation supports the artists!

Incidental Music is the sound of our environment and the sounds we contribute to it. Ross Hammond says of his book ‘Rural Guitar’ that it contains music to play on your porch, speaking to the way different environments shape musical choices. Melanie Sehman’s percussion work reminds us to listen to all the sounds around us and suggests music even in the most unlikely and arhythmic audio events.

Tonight we’ll hear from each of them on their instrument of choice, as well as their own words on their craft. Both musicians will be offering a workshop, a solo performance, and if we’re fortunate, a collaboration.

Ross Hammond is a prolific guitarist from Sacramento, co-founder of the In the Flow Jazz and Improvisational Music Festival, and a self-published author of a handwritten lesson book ‘Rural Guitar’

Melanie Sehman is a drummer/percussionist, a professor of music at Whatcom Community College, and frequents the AltLib playing drums with Hooves and Beak, and Cat Valley.
