SUMMARY:Classroom: Nettle Cordage Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Cordage is an ancient technology that has the power to heal when practiced in its primitive form. Fibers from many plants growing around us can be prepared and twisted together to make a tool essential for our basic needs. Each one is a work of art in which the soul of the maker can be seen. \nNettle has a very fine and strong fiber. It has long been used by native people for making fishing nets. Davis will be teaching the method of hand-working the material from dry stalks into strong two-ply string. This is a basic initiation into cordage. Each participant will get to work with their own materials and bring home the string they make. Much of the time will be spent practicing and refining the technique\, including the finer points of how to make the strongest cord. There will be other fibers to experiment with as well\, including wool\, cotton string\, New Zealand flax\, and red cedar bark. \nDavis has been practicing primitive skills for several years\, having learned at retreats from some great teachers on the west coast. His attention to detail and appreciation for the deeper meaning behind the work will give you a strong introduction to this valuable life skill. Davis is also a song leader and will facilitate the playful creation of a song we can all sing together while we work! \nALL MATERIALS PROVIDED.\n$10 suggested donation\nRSVP and more info here: https://www.facebook.com/events/558526684667976/ \nphoto credit: Allan Brown.
