SUMMARY:Poetrynight
DESCRIPTION:The second longest running Bellingham poetry group – Poetrynight.\nAll people are invited to join the group any Monday night at 7pm. You don’t have to be a writer to participate as readers of all ages are always invited to sign up to read between 7-7:30. Not all works must be originals. \nPoetrynight got its start in Stuart’s Coffeehouse in 1995\, when a group of poets gathered around a table to share their current work. It has grown over the years as it moved to different locations. \nPoetrynight is a program under the Whatcom poetry series\, and besides the weekly open mic/feature\, can provide creative writing workshops for schools.

SUMMARY:Duo Violao +1 (Brazil) / MANtrio / Combo Zero
DESCRIPTION:We’re looking forward to welcoming Duo Violao +1\, on tour from Brazil\, playing a survey of traditional choro music. \nDoors at 7:30pm; Music at 8:00pm\n$8-12 admission supports the artists and the AltLib\n—————————————- \nLong before the emergence of bossa nova and samba\, choro took shape in 19th-century Rio de Janeiro as the first truly Brazilian musical style; A confluence of popular European dance music like the polka and waltz with African rhythms\, particularly habanera (via Cuba) and Angolan lundu. \nDuo Violao is the duo project of Brazilian guitarists Rogerio Souza and Edinho Gerber. They have since expanded to Duo Violao +1\, when during their first visit to the Bay Area in 2015\, they met percussionist Ami Molinelli and the musical connection was immediate. Over the following years\, they travelled up and down the West Coast\, performing and developing a unique sound while navigating the rhythms\, styles\, and sub-genres of Choro music. In 2018\, their hard work paid off as Ami Molinelli received an IAC grant from the San Francisco Arts Commission for their collaboration. The result is “A Historia do Choro”\, a survey of the musical history and evolution of Brasil’s greatest art form that reveals its rhythmic and harmonic permutations. Their playing creates a unique musical statement\, coherent in timbre and vision\, marvelously varied in its nuances.\nhttp://www.duoviolaobrasil.com/ \nAdditionally\, they will be joined by two local jazz groups: \nMANtrio – MANtrio is an improvising trio featuring pianist and vocalist Sage Romey\, bassist Sarah Yates and drummer Melanie Sehman. Based in the jazz idiom\, the group brings together a wide variety of backgrounds and influences\, from West African and contemporary classical music to medieval music and jazz Manouche. Using radical listening as a guiding principle\, the group uses the standard trio format as a laboratory for exploration\, performing improvised music\, original creative work and experimental arrangements. \nCombo Zero – Combo Zero is a local jazz ensemble. \nAltLib is always ALL AGES!\nNOTAFLOF \nRSVP and more info: https://www.facebook.com/events/370599577149855/

SUMMARY:Free the Nipple Yoga
DESCRIPTION:We will join weekly to continue our work of normalizing the human nipple so it may be worn equally by all people\, not just those with “male” bodies. \nWe will join together in a facilitated yoga session open to all experience levels. Kids are so welcomed and people of all sorts…wearing what we would like to on our torsos. \nRespectful people of All Genders Shapes and Sizes are encouraged and welcomed to participate. Given societal nuances however\, male bodied people will be there to serve\, mainly engaging with the public if the public have questions or concerns\, so that fem\, trans\, and non-binary folk don’t have to. Also\, as part of serving\, any person will leave if asked. \nFolks should bring their families\, friends\, water\, a towel\, sunscreen\, and food for a potluck after we do yoga
