SUMMARY:Rahikka / Steve Sehman / WMD
DESCRIPTION:Join us at the AltLib for an eclectic\, electronic evening with spiraling synth sounds! \nRahikka [SEA]\nRahikka is the pseudonym of Seattle based electronic ambient artist Carson Rennekamp. Inspired by abstract expressionism and experimental cinema\, Rahikka focuses on meditation\, repetition\, and organic regeneration in non-narrative structure. Rahikka’s third LP\, Black River\, was independently released on June 8\, 2019. Based on atmospheric landscapes and imagined realities\, the Black River constantly flows through subtle tones\, effects\, and noise.\nhttps://rahikka.bandcamp.com \nSteve Sehman\nBased in Bellingham\, Steve crafts experimental electronic music that combines analog synths\, acoustic instruments\, field recordings\, spoken text\, and digital media. His music address dualities\, where ambient\, minimal textures give way to dense\, engulfing soundscapes.\nhttps://www.stevensehman.com/ \nWMD\nWMD is the ambient electronic project of Michael Erickson. The prolific electronic musician from Bellingham creates lush\, airy songs thrumming with the power of melancholia\, nostalgia\, and the bliss and sorrow of relationships. Erickson’s music taps into a blend of chillwave\, downtempo\, and even post-rock. As daunting as that can sound\, WMD lands somewhere between Tycho\, Washed Out\, and Baths in his deep\, melodic production.\nhttps://wmdchiptune.bandcamp.com/\n—–\nDoors at 7:30pm; Music at 8:00pm\n$6-10 supports the artists and the AltLib\nAltLib is always ALL AGES\nNOTAFLOF

Feeling like there’s nothing you can do to avoid big brother and his corporate baby daddies looking over your shoulder whenever you turn on your smartphone? Overwhelmed by the constant knowing that searching the web is close to impossible to do in privacy? \nIf you answered yes or no to any of these questions\, this is the workshop for you. \nComing to terms with the world we live in is a battle in and of itself\, but figuring out what to do about it can be riddled with incomplete answers\, hella bullshit\, and words so big it takes an hour and a half of googling to even understand. \nThe purpose of this workshop is to give people the resources to use the internet in whatever way they want without being watched and recorded while they are doing it. This course will be part one in a two-part series geared towards easy fundamentals of computer security. \nThis 101 workshop will cover:\nComputer Security?\nWhat it is and why we need it.\nDifferent threat levels\nCreating a “Reasonably Secure” relationship with the internet\nSecuring yourself from the Feds vs Corporate interests and how they are really the same\nGood practices with passwords\nAlternatives to corporate search engines\nWhat a VPN is and how to do it for free \nDATE: Saturday 7/27/2019\nTime: 2:00 PM\nLOCATION: The Alternative Library aka The ELF DEFENCE CENTER aka That one place where you saw a show and was like “Why are there books everywhere?” \nThis workshop is allegedly sponsored and funded by George Soros\n^ We still haven’t gotten the check yet\, so we’re also asking for optional donations \nRecommended Donation: $6 – $10\nRecommended Donation For Both Courses: $15\nNo one will be turned away for not having that paper \n– Workshop hosted by CIA agents attempting to infiltrate “the movement” because our boss told us we need to decrypt a cat-themed messaging cypher known as “ACAP” – \nFollow-up Course: Cybersecurity 202 – Interwebs Anonymity: How to censor your face when you use Snapchat.\nDATE: Saturday 8/3/2019\nTime: 2:00 PM \nFor accessibility information\, contact the alternative library  \nPS – We don’t endorse googling anything

SUMMARY:Hooves & Beak / Eleanor Murray / Colleen Freeman
DESCRIPTION:Doors at 7:30pm; Music at 8:00pm\n$6-12 supports the artists and the AltLib \nEleanor Murray has spent the past twelve years creating and recording music in the Pacific Northwest. Informed by folk tradition while adhering to no rules\, Eleanor Murray’s music exists in a genre all its own. Her songs are often structurally complicated\, while also sparse and open\, full of warmth and light. Her chord progressions\, rhythms and melodies draw as much from Appalachia as they do from jazz. Her lyrics are as cryptic as they are simple and straightforward. Each album’s sonic landscape is completely its own.\nhttps://www.eleanormurray.com/ \nHooves & Beak is a chamber-pop quartet\, led by multi-instrumentalist\, Whitney Flinn\, on harp. She is joined by a band featuring violin\, percussion\, and electric bass. Drawing on influences ranging from Joni Mitchell\, Ella Fitzgerald\, and Fiona Apple to Art Tatum\, Lou Reed\, and The Butthole Surfers\, Whitney’s raw and brutally honest songwriting style is accompanied by heartfelt harp arpeggios woven with the band’s intricate melodic patterns.\nhttps://hoovesandbeak.bandcamp.com/album/white-teeth-ep \nColleen Freeman is a violinist and vocalist currently based in Bellingham. The Horse Without Wings EP\, Colleen Freeman’s debut release\, was conceived when she strapped her fiddle to the back of her bicycle and set out from her home in Valladolid\, Spain\, headed for Sarlat\, France. The next three months and 3\,000km biking\, camping and busking her way through northern Spain and southern France had a profound physical\, emotional\, musical and spiritual impact\, which birthed the songs of this album.\nhttps://colleenfreeman.bandcamp.com/releases \n~~~\nAltLib is always ALL AGES\nNOTAFLOF\nRSVP and more info: https://www.facebook.com/events/2238887562865554/

SUMMARY:Poetrynight: Anniversary Double Feature!
DESCRIPTION:Guest host: Tiffany Geaudreau! \nOn the fourth wedding anniversary gifts of fruit or flowers are traditionally exchanged between the married couple. \nFeaturing at a poetry open mic is close enough? \nFour years ago\, Ellie and Danny surprised their friends\, the bartender\, the other patrons with a wedding at the Copper Hog. \nYou are cordially invited to celebrate with them at poetrynight. \nSign-ups for the normal open mic will start around 7. Lorie Demry might bring some snacks. \nEllie Gordon recently graduated from the University of New Hampshire with their MFA in Creative Writing and will fill out their own bio later. They’ve been published in all kinds of cool places and mostly does fiction so if you know any literary agents who like noir and/or magical realism\, send them this way. They prefer she/they pronouns. \nDaniel Kotoku (Danny) normally hosts poetrynight and is abdicating that role for the night in favor of featuring so be prepared for lots of old poems\, a few new poems\, but somehow still less time spent up on stage. They run a fitness club out of their backyard for a local theater\, can probably outrun you and are deeply troubled by climate change. Danny prefers he or they prounouns. \nFunds from any chapbooks sold will likely go toward alcohol\, weed or burritos. \nRSVP and more info: https://www.facebook.com/events/474904979747027/
