Chestnut Street. Proof of vaccination is required for entry. \nTatsuya Nakatani is an avant-garde percussionist\, composer\, and artist of sound. Active internationally since the 1990’s; Nakatani has released over 80 recordings and tours extensively\, performing over 150 concerts a year. His primary focus is his solo work and his large ensemble project\, the Nakatani Gong Orchestra. With his activity in the new music\, improvisation and experimental music scenes\, Nakatani has a long history of collaboration. He teaches master classes and lectures at universities and music conservatories around the world. Originally from Japan\, he makes his home in the desert town of Truth or Consequences\, New Mexico. \nNakatani creates his distinctive music centered around his adapted bowed gong\, supported by an array of drums\, cymbals\, and singing bowls. We will be rescheduling a performance with Lori Goldston later this summer. \nThe AltLib Popup series will run through the summer\, presenting a series of roving popup events to continue supporting expansive art projects and dig deep for uncommon cultural exchanges\, while we search for a new space to ground our collective. \nFor the first installment\, we are proud to host: \nLori Goldston is a cellist; classically trained and rigorously de-trained\, possessor of a restless\, semi-feral spirit. She has been based in Seattle\, working as a musician\, composer\, improvisor\, producer\, writer and teacher. Her voice as a cellist\, amplified or acoustic\, is full\, textured\, committed and original. A relentless inquirer\, her work drifts freely across borders that separate genre\, discipline\, time and geography. \nGibrana Cervantes is a Mexican violinist and improviser. After being classically trained\, she has performed both in traditional orchestras and contemporary music groups. Her work as a violinist incorporates electronic sound processing to use noise as a composition tool\, mixing atmosphere with melody. She is the founder and curator of the sound gallery 316centro\, a space focused on bringing to light the different manifestations of sound art that mark musical life in Mexico City. \n$10 // Location TBA

He has performed and exhibited around the world\, and as a kind of “punk ethnomusicologist” Arrington circumvents academic approaches in favor of building direct cooperative relationships with diverse musical cultures\, as an invited participant and active collaborator. \nCookie Tongue is a freak-folk duo from NYC\, creating a menagerie of puppetry\, animation\, butoh-inspired dance\, and ritual magic\, and performing original songs and whimsical interludes\, inspired by surreal mythology\, fairytales\, childhood\, ghost stories\, and a sprinkle of the occult. Performed with guitar\, singing saw\, glockenspiel\, organ\, bells\, drums\, experimental percussion\, and orphaned toys. \nLarkin Grimm Larkin Grimm is a NYC based composer\, singer\, and multi-instrumentalist\nwho bridges the worlds of folk\, rock n’ roll\, noise\, and free jazz.
