SUMMARY:Classroom: Nettle Cordage Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Cordage is an ancient technology that has the power to heal when practiced in its primitive form. Fibers from many plants growing around us can be prepared and twisted together to make a tool essential for our basic needs. Each one is a work of art in which the soul of the maker can be seen. \nNettle has a very fine and strong fiber. It has long been used by native people for making fishing nets. Davis will be teaching the method of hand-working the material from dry stalks into strong two-ply string. This is a basic initiation into cordage. Each participant will get to work with their own materials and bring home the string they make. Much of the time will be spent practicing and refining the technique\, including the finer points of how to make the strongest cord. There will be other fibers to experiment with as well\, including wool\, cotton string\, New Zealand flax\, and red cedar bark. \nDavis has been practicing primitive skills for several years\, having learned at retreats from some great teachers on the west coast. His attention to detail and appreciation for the deeper meaning behind the work will give you a strong introduction to this valuable life skill. Davis is also a song leader and will facilitate the playful creation of a song we can all sing together while we work! \nALL MATERIALS PROVIDED.\n$10 suggested donation\nRSVP and more info here: https://www.facebook.com/events/558526684667976/ \nphoto credit: Allan Brown. DESCRIPTION:As part of the Bellingham Film Coalition\, Whatcom-Skagit IWW presents…\n\nThree workers\, Zeke (Richard Pryor)\, Jerry (Harvey Keitel)\, and Smokey (Yaphet Kotto)\, are working at a car plant and drinking their beers together. One night\, when they steal away from their wives to have some fun\, they get the idea to rob the local union’s bureau safe. First they think it is a flop\, because they get only six hundred dollars out of it\, but then Zeke realizes that they also have gotten some “hot” material. They decide to blackmail their union. The best reason for that is the union itself. All three are provoked by the fact that the union claims to have lost ten thousand dollars by their robbery. \nSuggested Donation is $5.00\nNOTAFLOF\nRSVP and more info: facebook.com/events/251264029102132/ \nBellingham Film Coalition brought to you by\nWhatcom-Skagit IWW\nWhatcom Peace & Justice Center\nFilm Is Truth\nAlternative Library

SUMMARY:Poetrynite
DESCRIPTION:The second longest running Bellingham poetry group- poetrynight.\nAll people are invited to join the group any Monday night at 7 pm. You don’t have to be a writer to participate as readers of all ages are always invited to sign up to read between 6:30-7:00. Not all works must be originals. \nPoetrynight got its start in Stuart’s Coffeehouse in 1995\, when a group of poets gathered around a table to share their current work. It has grown over the years as it moved to different locations. \nPoetrynight is a program under the Whatcom poetry series and besides the weekly open mic/feature\, can provide creative writing workshops for schools
