DESCRIPTION:A connection-driven community building experience for people interested in shared housing\, shared resources\, and shared lives. \nIt was created to connect people interested in cohousing\, give existing communities tools to become more connected\, and build awareness about Bellingham’s newest cohousing project!  \nThe event consists of a potluck\, 3 Ted Talks from leaders in the cohousing space\, and 3 community building activities that help people feel what is necessary to build community.  \nYou should come if you are interested in building a new community or want to make an existing community better. \nSCHEDULE\nThe event will begin with a shared meal and everyone should bring their favorite dish! DESCRIPTION:Join us for an evening dedicated to supporting the Unis’tot’en Camp. We will watch short documentaries about indigenous land defense\, the camp itself\, and the violent raids on the land defenders there beginning January 7\, 2019. There will be a report back from supporters recently returned from Unis’tot’en\, and ample time for discussion.  \nPlease bring a donation for Unis’tot’en if you can (we can help you make credit or debit card donations too!) as we will be raising funds for the camp and legal defense. There will be T-shirts\, patches\, zines\, and other goodies—from which all proceeds will go directly to the Unis’tot’en land defenders. \n“Members of the Gitdumt’en and Unis’tot’en clans have been defending their lands – which have never been ceded to the Canadian state – from an incursion by members of the extractive industry who are seeking to push through the multi-billion dollar CoastalGasLink pipeline\, which aims to transport fracked gas across their territories to refineries in Kiliwack and ultimately to export markets in Asia.”  \nBC courts have recently signed off on this invasion in a recent decision which goes against prior higher court rulings in favor of the sovereignty of the Wet’suet’en Nation on their unceded land. \nOn January 7th\, 2019\, the RCMP began a violent attack on the Gitum’ten checkpoint. DESCRIPTION:Whatcom Peace & Justice Center\, with the Bellingham Film Coalition\, presents a screening of the 2014 historical drama “Selma\,” directed by Ava DuVernay and starring David Oyelowo as Martin Luther King Jr.\, Common as James Bevel\, Carmen Ejogo as Coretta Scott King\, and Tim Roth as George Wallace. The film follows the Black civil rights activists who led the Selma to Montgomery marches of 1965. DESCRIPTION:The second longest running Bellingham poetry group- poetrynight.\nAll people are invited to join the group any Monday night at 7 pm.  You don’t have to be a writer to participate as readers of all ages are always invited to sign up to read between 6:30-7:00. Not all works must be originals. \nPoetrynight got its start in Stuart’s Coffeehouse in 1995\, when a group of poets gathered around a table to share their current work.  It has grown over the years as it moved to different locations. \nPoetrynight is a program under the Whatcom poetry series and besides the weekly open mic/feature\, can provide creative writing workshops for schools
