SUMMARY:Bellingham Noise NoFest
DESCRIPTION:The Alternative Library presents a mini-fest of noise\, improvised music\, and dark electronics. Short performances and light intermissions will highlight harsh tones and extended techniques across the dynamic musical geography of the PNW. \nDoors at 7:30pm; performances at 8:00pm\n$5-15 sliding scale \nFeaturing: \nCj Boyd – Bassist turned vagabond\, C.J. Boyd uses bass loops and voices in order to try and stop time. On perpetual tour since March 2008\, movement and stasis are both at the center of his music. Weaving together improvisation with a sparse\, minimalist aesthetic\, Boyd creates waves of sound\, worlds of provocative unlived memories through a singular approach to the upright bass and electric bass guitar that makes everything near and far.\nhttp://cjboyd.bandcamp.com/ \nAnimal | Inside – Downtempo trip-hop twosome Animal|Inside combine electronic drums with roving synth melodies to create the perfect musical setting for delicate and haunting vocals. Cavernous\, cerebral\, and just plain dark\, Animal|Inside’s songs seem made to transport the listener to a swirling landscape of beauty and rawness.\nhttps://animalinside.bandcamp.com/ \nKole Galbraith (Sea) – Seattle based drone and noise artist\, Kole Galbraith explores rock and roll based instruments’ revolutionary affects in various contexts and settings. Utilizing both traditional and extended techniques as well as synthesis\, Galbraith combines deep drones and harsh textures to make very cathartic and emotional pieces.\n \nTwin Sibling – twinsibling.bandcamp.com/album/tarantula-town \nScuzz Nun (Sea) https://youtu.be/S70_tG5z9nM \nSpade & Archer (Members of Scum Eating) \nKristal McKinstry \nFuture Man \n—–\nThe Alternative Library is an all-ages\, alcohol-free space.

SUMMARY:Hands Off Maru: A Benefit for Maru Mora Villalpando
DESCRIPTION:This is a night to Defend the Defenders! \nMaru Mora Villalpando has given much to the movements for immigrants and worker’s rights. Through decades of dedicated organizing with the communities most impacted by our nation’s inhumane immigration policies\, her struggle has inspired many to action\, to fight for a more just and equitable world. Now the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency has targeted her for deportation because of her activism. \nOn the night of April 13th\, we will rally around Maru and communities of undocumented immigrants and latinx farmworkers she works with. We will be raising money for her fight against deportation\, raising awareness about the ongoing struggles she’s been a part of and raising a ruckus as we dance through the night. \nThere will be a silent auction throughout the evening with all sorts of sweet items\, live jazz with the Blue Root Quartet\, a salsa lesson with Rumba Northwest and a salsa dance with live music by the Bilongo Quintet. \n$10.00 suggested donation at the door.\nWe hope to see you there! \nRSVP and more info: https://www.facebook.com/events/591599697841719/

SUMMARY:CONCERT: Indira Valey / A Stick And A Stone / Porch Cat / Cat Valley
DESCRIPTION:Doors at 7:30pm; Music at 8:00pm\n$6 admission supports the performers and the AltLib \nINDIRA VALEY is a queer Latina multi-disciplinary performance artist and avant-garde musician. She channels powerful songs that reverberate with the voices of her ancestors and speak directly to modern audiences. Her ancient-sounding\, resonant voice is a force of nature\, and she utilizes a unique palette of instruments (flugelhorn\, timpani\, kalimba\, bike wheel\, and electric guitar) with effects pedals to create mesmerizing and memorable live performances that are ever-changing due to her spontaneous improvisational magic.\nwww.indiravaley.bandcamp.com \nA STICK AND A STONE crafts haunting\, minimalist\, choral-ridden song-spells on electric bass laced with improvised strings\, ambient field recordings\, and poetic imagery. Led by an openly trans and disabled vocalist-composer\, A Stick And A Stone is devoted to shedding light on the unseen and unheard. A Stick And A Stone uses music to converse with nonhuman life forms\, fallen friends\, and mysterious forces with reverent inquiries into surviving and restoring our fractured world. A Stick And A Stone has been found touring across this continent for the past 11 sun cycles.\nwww.astickandastone.com \nPORCH CAT Porch Cat is a queer\, feminist\, power-pop dream-punk trio making music about dreams\, illness and pain\, colonization\, trauma\, and love. Porch Cat weaves melody and poetry with upbeat pop-punk songs and sludgy ballads – characterized by the tones of custom-built guitar pedals\, punchy – yet nuanced – drums\, and vocals that range from poppy harmonies to raw screams. SUMMARY:CLASSROOM: Gita Yogi Workshop with Chidananda
DESCRIPTION:Chidananda has spent the latter part of his life as a monk\, studying the teachings of the Gita from the Vedic traditions of India\, gaining deep insight into its hidden meaning and timeless practices that are particularly relevant to our current world. As a former investment banker\, he uses experience to take the ancient teachings and skillfully apply it to the modern living. \nThis could be a great opportunity for younger generation spiritual seekers to meet a more down-to-earth yogi and learn more about the essential-life practices that help bring us closer to living peaceful lifestyles!
