Fried Chicken, Jesus and Chocolate
Fergus MacRoichFried Chicken, Jesus and Chocolate is as much about storytelling as it is about style. Ishmael is born to a heroin mother, thinking she is a “spider.” Much of his time he eats chicken and watches cartoons. His mother overdoses and Ishmael goes to live with Grandma Cecilia. She impresses Jesus’ teachings upon him. After Grandma Cecilia’s murder, Ishmael is taken to a Boy’s Home where he is abused but is protected by higher powers and his own will for self-preservation. The ending is as magical and fantastical as some of the moments in Ishmael’s life. It is a new beginning.
