The Red Deal: Indigenous Action to Save Our Earth

The Red Nation

The Red Deal is a polititcal program for the liberation that emerges from the oldest class struggle in the Americas — the fight by Native people to win sovereignty, autonomy, and dignity. As the Red Nation proclaims, it is time to reclaim the life and future that has been stolen, come together to confront climate disaster, and build a world where all life can thrive.

Imagine a Green New Deal but not the liberal/greenwashed perpetuation of extractive industry for the colonial/imperial state. This posits a true new deal — decolonize / land back / mutuality / native-led restoration and reciprocity, both for land and people. This work lays out why any policy that isn’t explicitly anti-colonial and native-centered will fail to address the interlocking systems of social, political and environmental degradation. Great introductory work if you’re new to the topic; if you’re well acquainted with the topic, it’s a bit of a let down because it proposes solutions (like divesting) that require mass involvement rather than focusing on direct, hands-on individual solutions that don’t require the “mass movement” fantasy.
