Gustav Klimt
Edmund SwinglehurstGustav Klimt began his life as a successful painter of murals and as a designer of pageants in the age of Emperor Franz Joseph in Austria. He was a key member of the Viennese Succession movement who sought a more modern style of painting. He believed that human suffering could only be reviled through art and love. This ideal is enshrined in many of his finest works, giving an insight into his productive, if turbulent, life.
