The Things They Carried
Tim O'BrienThe source of my 100/100 English Paper! A triumph in an otherwise underspent high school scholastic experience… ah what a memory. But anyway, this book is freakin’ great. O’Brien, the author, is a survivor of a few vietnam tours and what comes together in the aftermath is this “is this fiction or not? what is real, what is created, what is truth and is there such a thing?” work that shows how war affects people and also how fiction can be more real than truth. Oh O’Brien, you thought-provoking scoundrel of heady intense existential literature. What is one to do, but write a maniacally crafted all nighter essay about such core-twisting work? That or go live life. Cause it’s just one or the other in a cold internet world of snark and crass and two-sided die. But don’t worry, keep hope alive, like the wondering father and son in O’Brien’s other classic work, The Road. Oh wait, that was Cormac McCarthy. As always, we know nothing, but if you read this book you might just get sucked in and feel in the moment. Give it a whirl!
