Booking
Please make sure to read this entire page before writing us an e-mail:::
If you decide to send an e-mail, please include as much information about your project as possible: desired show dates, links to websites, recordings of what you do, bios, or anything useful in helping us understand if your project would be right for our space. If we are able to host you, please work with us to promote the show and follow our rules.
We mostly are only able to book live music on Fridays and Saturdays and it is very helpful if you reach out to some local acts to try to confirm support before proposing a date here.
What we’re looking for:
We are especially known for hosting experimental, free improvisation, performance art, book readings/signings, poetry recitations, film screenings, burlesque, “outsider” artists, installation art, puppet shows, noise, drone, and other such weirdness. If you’re cruising in this vein, we’re the spot for you.
When not hosting a show, the Alternative Library operates daily as a specialty library/classroom/weirdo-hangout/whatever space. For this reason most of our events start after our usual open hours (2-7pm) and out of courtesy to our neighbors and volunteers, we like to end things by midnight, so that we can tidy and prepare to be a library again the next day. For the protection of books, we do not allow fog machines or the spraying of bodily fluids (real or synthetic) of any kind.
All-Ages
We are an all-ages space. This means that we do not allow alcohol in our space (or on our stoop)
Performers are not above this decree.
Safer Space
By agreeing to perform here you agree to upholding our Safer Space Policy.
Now that you’ve read about us, please send an e-mail to: booking@altlib.org
Understand that we’re inundated with requests, so it may take a week for us to respond.
If you don’t have an e-mail or a “web presence”, walking in off the street and explaining yourself might work just fine.
