While we are in transition and searching for a stable home base, we will continue to produce events with some of our neighborhood partners.
The AltLib Popup Series will present roving events to continue supporting expansive art projects and dig deep for uncommon cultural exchanges. If you’re interested in setting up a show with us, please read our booking page and send us an e-mail.

Bellingham Puppet and Mask Festival
March 22, 2019 @ 7:00 pm - 11:00 pm
Come forget we’re all puppets of the system — watch masters manipulate and make magic with premium puppet shows! Bellingham Puppetry Guild and the Alternative Library present a full weekend of puppet shows, mask performances, and storytelling for All Ages!
Doors at 7:30pm; Performances at 8:00pm
Single night tickets will be available at the door: $8-20 sliding scale
Featuring acts from:
Jawbone Puppet Theater – Jawbone Puppet Theater is a quirky father/son act presenting short form, funny, iconoclastic puppet shows based on literature, history and folktales, which tend to have social justice messages at their heart.
Pappenspeil – From the German paper play, Pappenspeil is a widely inspired, but original creation. Traveling in a trunk-sized box, the puppets and masks have been crafted from mostly repurposed cloth, rag, wire, paper and other ordinary everyday objects to form the characters and symbols of legendary folk tales and morality plays. The stories are based on classics from the German/Central European “Märchen” tradition, yet aimed freshly at your very own eyes and ears, your beating heart, wondering mind – to celebrate the living art of the good sense, the common sense, the laughing twinkle and the soaring spirit!
String and Shadow – String and Shadow Puppet Theater is based out of Olympia, Washington. With mixed backgrounds in theater, puppetry, visual art, and computer science, they have joined forces to play with trash in public together for the last two years. They specialize in things big, tiny, peculiar, dreamy, and unsettling.
Shadow Sail Theater – Heather Dawn Sparks and Mattea Made are the Creatures of the Night! Weaving bold pomp with saucy voguing haute couture, the creatures of the night come to life in the crisp clarity of shadow and light.
