Iron Council
China MievilleThird in the Bas-Lag series; this is the weirdest book series I’ve ever read. The first book was set in this town called New Crobzon which is this crazy steam-punk but ancient city state where there are all these weird races like cactus people and bug people where the females are human except that they have giant beetles on their heads and the males are just actually beetles. imagine that. imagine being a sentient race where only half of you are sentient. and he goes into detail! about the crazy religious cults that surround not-thinking, like as if being non-sentient is how God is and how you should be. and this is just one minor race in this whole huge world of craziness. there is sex, and politics (the politicians consort with demons), there are giant spiders that control time, oh, and there’s a computer that spontaneously becomes AI in a garbage dump.
