Each chapter builds upon the next, introducing a new character and along with them a new twist to the story. This surreal and absurd mystery unravels to reveal a disturbing and humorous sort of freak show, making the mundane details seem all too important.
Wow! Currently my favorite book. Dreamlike and mystical, ironically tragic and humorous, totally intriguing and beautifully crafted. Clowes takes you on the strangest adventure imaginable. If you enjoy dabbling in the provocative and bizzare, read it. Heck, regardless, just read it. It’s one of a kind.
Beautifully and simply illustrated, this story is insane, unpredictable, and guaranteed to hold your attention. With the introduction of a new character in every chapter, each seeks to somehow ruin the protagonist’s life or add a new unusual twist to his horrible and hilarious journey.
This is like watching a medley of “Eraserhead” along with other David Lynch films -intercut with “Helter Skelter”….or rather, it’s like a dream of watching them-an uneasy, weird, sometimes funny dream that trembles on the edge of a nightmare.
