Medicine and Meditation: Conversations on Mindfulness in the Management of Chronic Pain and Illness
Nancy WelchThis book contains twelve interviews with prominent physicians, psychologists, Zen teachers, and those who suffer from chronic pain and illness, and tells how they are incorporating meditation into their medical management programs.
Writing this book, Welch interviewed many people with different health issues, but had never thought of her own family as being so vulnerable to suffering. Although the first Noble Truth of Buddhism is that life is suffering—and although this truth tells us that sickness, old age and death are inevitable—Welch had somehow managed to avoid applying this truth to those she relied upon all her life.
