Juan Uslé: OJO-NIDO

Juan Uslé, Kevin Power, Lisa Jann

Juan Usle: OJO-NIDO captures the paintings and poetry of the Spanish painter, on the occasion of his 2008 solo exhibition at L.A. Louver in Venice, California (May 22 – July 5, 2008). In his essay entitled Beauty and All That Jazz, curator and writer Kevin Power reflects on Usle’s intellectual and aesthetic explorations through composition and mark-making, and juxtaposes the artist’s analytical, vibrant approach to painting with musical and literary references. Sixteen paintings, created in studios in New York and Cantabria, Spain, are fully illustrated, alongside poems written by Usle — printed in both Spanish and English — related to each of the works. OJO-NIDO invites admirers of Usle into the canny dimensionality of his work, beyond the plane of the canvas.
