The Silver Arm

Jim Fitzpatrick

THE SILVER ARM, published in 1981 is the second of two volumes, which tell the story of the Tuatha Dé Danann, a race of god like warriors who invaded Ireland about 3,500 years ago leaving an impression still felt to this day. These stories are based on the Early Mythological Cycle of Irish stories. This is the story of the Second Battle of Moytura. It tells of Nuada, after loosing his arm and the kingship of the Tuatha Dé Danann, how he is given a Silver Arm to make him whole again and his return to lead the Tuatha Dé Danann against the Fomor Tribe and Balor of the Evil Eye. Look at the other pictures I have included which are some examples of artwork in the book. These stories are of great influence in ancient Irish history and many Irish archaeological sites have names or stories related to the Tuatha Dé Danann. Unfortunately not much emphasis is put on the importance of these incredible stories, which are considered the earliest voice of western European civilization. Many of the places in Ireland where there are still links to this part of our proud history are not given the care they deserve and I hope in writing and illustrating this book to help preserve our wonderful national heritage.
